Yay Work

I love working here so much.
Today we identified a bug that started occuring after the release this past weekend (someone was passing us the literal string “null” where we weren’t expecting it).
Fix took about 5 seconds to make, and it’ll be going out on Wednesday (possibly tomorrow, depending on if they do an e-release or not). How’s that for turnaround?

Even better, as part of that fix, Forrest suggested making the error message more informative. Coded up a quick fix (it was simple, so no worries about impact), talked to our team’s doc writer on YIM to get input on the customer-facing aspects, and had it reviewed and checked in in under an hour. This will also go out on Wednesday. 2 days from identifying a problem to having the fix out for customers to use. Awesome.

I love my job so much. The nearly-real-time response from customers on many issues is awesome.

I also like this song a lot. The remix is better than the original, IMO… livelier and such.

Happy

Had a nice long talk a couple nights ago that really made me feel a lot better about everything. It occurs to me that I often lose sight of all the awesomeness in my life and how lucky I’ve been and focus too much on the stuff that’s bothering me. I should try and do that less often, especially given how much awesomeness fills my life each and every day.

Life is good.

That is all.

Meh

Politics are making me extremely bitter. :-\
Do not want.

Maybe that’s why I keep feeling the need to shut myself off from the world.

Edit: Here is the thread where I tried to express my views, but it is mostly best summarized as:

Prior to McCain’s recent attempts at calming down his base, I stated it was absolutely unacceptable that anyone would vote for McCain (NOT Republicans, but McCain) because it is unacceptable to put policy before morals and integrity (once the candidate crosses a threshhold of unacceptable morals and integrity) regardless of your agreement with the policies.

My reasoning for this conclusion that McCain had crossed an unacceptable threshold is that McCain was inciting violence among his supporters and putting Obama’s life in danger. Given this, it is unacceptable to vote for him.

My reasoning for him inciting violence is that:

  • Regardless of whether or not McCain was *attempting* to incite violence, he had because there are radical people in the audience who interpret it that way, and this was reported in the media.
  • Once something is reported in the media, it is assumed that he knows about it.
  • If he knows about it, it is his responsibility to speak out and say that isn’t what he meant and distance himself from the remarks. If he doesn’t he gives off the impression that he supports this view, at least to the radical who esposes these views in the first place (which is precicely who needs to be told otherwise).
  • The fact that he hadn’t responded in many days (and indeed, continued on the same line of attacks knowing the consequences) is unacceptable and that more than anything is the issue I was trying to bring up (but not expressing very clearly).

Now that he has stated at rallies that he respects Obama and is trying to make clear that he does not believe Obama is a terrorist, it is once again okay in my mind to vote for him.

Edit edit: What the hell is wrong with people?

More Student Wars v2 CCG

You can download the cards here.

Worked some more on Alliances today. Yearbook got a couple interesting cards that let you basically treat the top card of your discard pile as in-play (attacking it, spotting it, whatever). All the keyword-based sub-factions got a helpful Persist Event that will make building decks based around them easier. Also dealt another blow against attackers with new “characters may not be damaged” powers and cards.

Did some general cleaning up so that cards are slightly less cluttered… mainly eliminated the across-the-board sub-faction abilities and stuck them on one character each instead. Still looking for ways to clean up cards further. Using symbols for some common terms and actions isn’t out of the question, but I have to be sure to not overdo it like my last attempt.

Also generally did some strengthening of GPA. I’m not sure if it’s enough.

If anyone has time and would like to playtest, I would be eternally grateful. The game needs a lot of testing and balancing (the Humanities faction, in particular).

McCain WTF

I have no idea what to even say to this

Cindy McCain lashed out at Barack Obama Tuesday [saying] the Illinois senator has waged the “dirtiest campaign in American history.”

It’s frightening if she actually believes that.

Edit: Just to make clear… I don’t believe Obama’s campaign is clean, I just believe that McCain has run a far, far dirtier campaign (and this is yet another example of it). Obama’s campaign didn’t throw me into an introverted depression for 3 days, thankyouverymuch.

Edit edit: The fact checks are telling. On the first page, all of the McCain criticisms that I saw were either True or True (but incomplete), compared to all of the Obama criticisms which were either Misleading or False. Seriously, who’s running the dirtier campaign?
