Poor camera

Remember my senior year when my camera started creating black gradients at the bottom of photos when the shutter speed was too fast (over 1/60 or so, depending on the focal length)?
It’s doing it again now, noticibly so with the flash when zoomed. Ugh.

If you see me taking photos with my camera upside down this next week, that’s why. For some reason, doing so eliminates the problem. I will also likely shoot buggy this way since 1/200 at 300mm = half the frame is black.

On the bright side of this… the last time I had my camera repaired, I told myself it would not get another repair. As it seems to be on its way out again, I will be buying a D80 at some point in the near future. Yayz.

Also, in unrelated news, I did a test shoot of photos of 8 today, and it was interesting.

Boo for Great Clips!

Today in the adventures of aIan and Alan, we got really, really bad haircuts. Whee!
At least mine looks a little better after the shower and subsequent restyling.

Lesson learned. Supercuts is acceptable but pricier. Great Clips is cheap cheap cheap but terrible.

Also, Pittsburgh is awesome and yet, even with a week, I’m still worried that I won’t have time to do everything and see everyone that I want to.

Yay for Southwest!

My flight from SFO to LAS today was fun. When we were starting to take off, the flight crew asked for aisle seat people’s help with the “Southwest express snack service” and put packets of peanuts on the ground such that they slid back in the plane as it tilted upward during takeoff. They also made a lot of random jokes and puns during the safety announcements (“In the event of a water evacuation, there is a life jacket under your seat… [insert usual stuff]… Feel free to start paddling towards shore. We’ll follow behind with all the beer and spirits we can carry.”).

Now I have a 3 hour layover here in Vegas, and I will be in Pittsburgh around 11:30 local time tonight.

I leave next Sunday 4/19. There should be lots of adventures and photos and halfprice and ITG over the next week.

Photo Firsts (8, Em)

Life has another couple months’ worth of updates.

Here’s my first photo of 8:

March 26, 2005 when he came for CtFwS and stayed in my room, on the way to late night diner food.

Here’s my first photo of Em:

September 9, 2005 during the Underground Tour. It’s a really bad photo of her… apologies to her.

I’ve changed up the stats a little from previous posts. I figure that, since I graduated in December 2007, it doesn’t make sense to break up photo stats into semester + summer ranges. The stats will therefore be in 4-month chunks starting with January 2008. I’ll go back and redo all the stats that I’ve posted already when the current range ends (April 30, 2009). Life will start breaking up the same way once I get through December 2007 (and we are getting close… up to October 2007 already).

Edit: Unrelated to anything, I found this rather nice plugin today that lets you view EXIF data for any image on the web.

Also, sweet dreams are apparently made of Keith. Some of them want to Keith you. But some of them want to be Keithed by you.

Photo Firsts (Ally, Brewer)

Life has some more updates. Yay for life.

A lot has happened in my life since last post.
I had a two-year anniversary (although anniversaries seem kind of silly if you’re not actually married, but not any less meaningful) and I still wonder every day how I managed to be so awesomely lucky.
I tried making homemade ravioli at 1:30 AM. Still haven’t cooked it, so I have no idea how it tastes. I should do that soon.
I discovered a tasty dim sum place and went with coworkers. $5 gets me enough food for lunch and a snack… $6 gets me lunch and dinner. Cheap and tasty and mmm chewy little treat goodness.
I’m improving at running. Today I ran almost 3 miles nonstop (2.97 miles, to be exact; yay for treadmills keeping track of distances). I generally feel healthier and happier. This is also causing me to eat healthier and watch my snack intake. This is a good thing.
cpride and Marty came up from Santa Barbara and Jess came down from Seattle to visit and there was much awesomeness. Photos are posted at photos 2.

I’m flying out to Pittsburgh this Saturday and will arrive around 11:30 PM. There should be halfprice on Sunday for those interested.

Anyway, here’s my first photo of Ally:

August 26, 2005 in the cluster.

And my first photo of Brewer:

September 9, 2005 in the Underground Tour. Can you spot him?

These stats are awesome and terrible and are a testament to how many more photos I take at each event nowadays than I used to (since I now regularly fill up a 2 GB card at each event, and sometimes have filled up two).
