Foodpost

The last few days have been full of yumminess. Tomorrow we’re going to the Phoenix Buffet for lunch, which is an awesome Chinese buffet that includes made-to-order wonton noodle or ramen or udon soup, a full BBQ meats bar, a sushi bar, a dim sum bar, and green tea ice cream. Yum.

Today at lunch was Cyclo, a Vietnamese restraunt. I had the beef noodle soup (of course), and it was the largest dish I’d ever ordered (but easy to finish). Yummy. Their spring rolls were also fairly tasty.

Yesterday for dinner we went to Abuelo’s. My parents ordered some shrimp, beef, and chicken fajitas, which were excellent. I had a bowl of the best tortilla soup ever (there was more chicken in there than soup, and it was good breast meat too!) followed by four amazing enchaladas: espinaca (spinach and cream, I think) topped with red sauce, shredded chicken topped with green chile sauce, shredded beef topped with chile colorado, and ground beef topped with red chile sauce. Mmmm.

The day before that was lunch at El Paso. Dad ordered the baby back ribs with coleslaw and corn, and I got the grilled BBQ salmon with steamed veggies and beans. We split everything and it was all excellent and yummy and yay. Also, I had a western bacon cheeseburger at Carl’s Jr. at midnight, and it was more yummy.

Sometime before that (the day or two before) we went to Hong Kong Gourmet Buffet for lunch, and I had way too much of their yummy mango cream cake. Also a lot of the usual Chinese fare and made-to-order sushi. Mmmm.

So yeah, yay for yummy food.
I’ve been feeling kinda homesick for the past week though… worse than usual too, because this time I’m actually missing a person in addition to the place. Meh. At least I head home this Friday and get to celebrate my birthday with friends this Sunday. Boo at early flights and having to get up at 4 AM, but whatever.

It’s sexy Kat! You might ask how this is any sexier than usual pictures of her, and my answer to you would be “I guess it’s not. *drool drool drool* :-9”
Scandalous.

I have a new camera battery in the mail, being sent to CMU to await my arrival. Awesome. Now I won’t have to recharge my battery after every use. I’ll be sure to let the new one run completely dry before charging it (since that’s what they recommend, despite it not having a “memory” like traditional rechargables) so it doesn’t get screwed up like this one.
Meh.

Yay life.
Life is awesome.
*dances*

Happy Turkey Day!

Mmm I am full of yummy food.
Had dinner tonight with Tyler, Psyfe, Alan, and Tyler’s friend (whose name I forget because I am bad with names). So much good food…

So I was kinda stupid. I planned to make candied yams. I found a recipe online, and it called for 6 large yams… it didn’t occur to me to think how many people said recipe would feed… so I bought 5.75 pounds of yams from Geagle (they were 6 *very* large yams). Set out this morning to make the yams… and found that I filled the pot after 2 and a half, so I made the candied yams and still had 3.5 yams left.
Looked up a recipe for mashed yams with marshmallows, and made that as well, using up another 2.5 yams.
So yeah, I had a huge casserole dish full of candied yams, another filled with mashed yams, and another whole yam. Sooo many yams.
I looked it up afterward, and it turns out 2.5 pounds of yams can feed 10 people. I made about 5 pounds of yams for 5 people. Oops.

Besides the massive amounts of yams, Tyler had made baked cornish hens, a huge casserole dish of stuffing, salad with apples and pine nuts, bread, and garlic redskin mashed potatoes. His friend brought cranberry sauce. Psyfe brought pies.
I am full and happy now. So much food :D

Yay for not having to spend Thanksgiving alone (and thank you, Tyler!)

Also certain people make me very happy and make me feel loved and are just generally awesome.
*feels incredibly lucky*
I have at least one thing to be thankful for this year… and it’s definetly a big one.

Haven’t done any homework in the past 2 days. Maybe I should do some tonight.

Nah.

Blar, I’m going to have nightmares about yams tonight. Candied yams, mashed yams, baked yams, yams with honey, sliced yams, cubed yams, crushed yams, whole yams, raw yams by the pound, mounds and mounds of yams ahhhhh!
*runs away and hides*

Foo

Last night I watched Saw. That movie is quite possibly the most horrible thing ever, not in the sense that it was gory or anything… but because it plays with your mind in horrible ways and makes you question your own life. Meh. Amazing film. I want to watch it again sometime… but this time with someone else :-P

Microsoft rejected me… again. Oh well. I should apply to Apple, Adobe, and Fog Creek… if I can find the time -_-

The best stuff from Thursday’s photo shoot is now posted in art. You should go see it.

Guess who’s an idiot?
You know how the flash sync speed on my Nikon is 1/125 because it’s a newer camera? I metered the shoot at 1/125, and then shot both the film and the digitals at 1/125.

Know how the sync speed on older cameras (read: my old Canon AE-1) is 1/60?
Yeeeeah.
I can salvage most of the film that I shot, fortunately, but I still feel like a dumbass. Heh. At least now I’ll never forget again. And, of course, I have all the beautiful digitals I shot, many of which will probably end up batched in photos (depending on how much homework I manage to get done this morning).

Happy birthday to Mark Stehlik (today)! Yesterday there was yummy Mark-shaped cake.

Grant also got these adorable chocolate kisses decorated as a ghost and a pumpkin.

I’m rather fond of these photos of Jordan…

I also like how this one is out of focus… it softens the image up a lot, which I think works with the shot, I dunno.

I’m feeling especially happy this morning, and I’m not quite sure why.
I think I just feel both accomplished and cared for… and I don’t think there’s much else in life better than the combination of the two.
Plus tonight I might get a certain someone… and that would be completely awesome :)

I fail

Got home at 6 PM today after our algo presentation (which went kinda meh).
Thought to myself, “Hmm… I should make hot dogs.”
Put a pot of water on the stove, then wash dishes, and go to start working on homework.

Around 8:15 PM, I smell something burning, and think to myself, “Someone must be burning s… oh wait…. SHIT!”
Spent the next 3 hours out of my room as to not inhale the toxic burnt-teflon fumes filling the apartment. I kinda fail at life.
But yeah… now I can officially say I have burned water (and teflon).

Today’s platinum printing was kinda a failure. Things just stopped coming out completely after a while, even after 30 minute exposures. Meh. Given that the platinum stuff costs $150/bottle, I feel like I kinda wasted it on things that didn’t come out and ended up in the trash. Meh. Oh well.

Huge hugs to teh person who had a bad day today. If there’s anything I can do to make things better, please call me/IM me/contact me somehow. Seriously. I don’t care if it’s 4 AM and I’m asleep. Call me.
(This offer is actually open to anyone else who had a bad day too, except for the last part… please don’t call me at 4 AM :-P)

Meh, no pictar today.

Food/ITG

I made fresh garlic mashed redskin potatoes tonight. They were yummy. I put them over pasta, so they were kinda like inside-out perogies. Mmmmm.

In ITG news… passed Energizer Hard today (the 10-foot). Also came close to my first star… 95.88% on Pandemonium Medium. Set new personal records on Infection Hard (94.29%) and Utopia Hard (90.68%) as well. The other day, I also improved my score on Charlene Expert (up to a ~67.5%) and passed Driven (a marathon course). Yay for ITG funness. I’m also playing some doubles now, and I can pass 7s. Haven’t yet attempted an 8, because I’m still having trouble recognizing the patterns in the steps and locating myself on the two pads.

Today was the Fairfax BBQ, and there was lots of food and yummyness as well.

There are now pictures of me playing ITG, thanks to Ben.

So I’ve been avoiding large groups of people lately, and it’s working out well. I’m just so much happier when it’s just me and one other person, or a couple other people. I dunno… it’s kinda a complete change from where I was (used to seek out huge groups on purpose), but I kinda like it better this way. I’m never invited to events and foo anyway, and no one tells me about parties that are happening, so meh.

Got my graphics homework mostly done. I was getting hung up on the stupidest thing… apparently OpenGL processes transformation commands backwards, since it sticks them on a stack and pulls them out. I spent the longest time figuring out why my “translate to (0,0) and then rotate” wasn’t working properly. Reversed the order of all my function calls, and everything worked perfectly. Bleh.
