Oh god

I don’t even know what to say to this, besides oh god i logged in to write this post and realized my last journal comment was from him and now for some reason i’m crying wtf is wrong with me…

RIP Twizmer. You will be missed.

Edit: Greg’s entry really sums it up well. Please, if you ever feel like you need to talk about your issues, and feel like I can be the person to listen, get a hold of me somehow. You are never alone.
cpride has a gallery for Twizmer photos here. I’ll upload most of mine at some point, but you should contact him if you have some to contribute.

Breaking the Drudge

Life has received another (rather large) update (3 months! :O). If you follow it, you should leave more comments :D Comments are awesome.

Here’s a couple photos from this weekend. I love my new f/1.4 lens so much.

I think I’ve recently been spending less and less time at my computer (outside of work), which is a good thing.
After work, three times a week, I go running for half an hour, and it’s a really nice feeling afterward. On Tuesdays, Will joins me and we use some of the weight machines as well. Other nights (or sometimes after exercising), I’ll wander the city, walk to Safeway or the mall just to walk (but not buy anything), or cook lots of tasty food. Tonight, for example, we walked over to Virgin to check out their store-closing sale (verdict: prices still way too high… $12 for a CD after the 30% off is still too much, and don’t even look at their DVDs). Afterward, I walked to Borders to look at their media liquidation and picked up some cheese at Safeway.

I’ve also been getting less sleep, breaking my habit of oversleeping, which makes me feel lethargic and bleh all week. I’ve been going to bed around midnight and waking up at 7:30, which gives me plenty of time to do things in the morning. I generally feel more alert at work (although I don’t particularly feel productive given that all the work at this point in the release is test automation and bug fixes… but I never feel productive when doing those because there’s no finished feature to show for it :P). This is awesome.

I’ve also been having fun with people on weekends. Last weekend there was Ally and Matt and wandering and tasty food. This past weekend there was Dan and Jeff and Nesky and Dan’s Wii and lots of Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Next weekend there will be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles party with Ally and her friends. It’s nice having something to do rather than just sitting around in front of my computer all day (which often turns into going back to sleep or taking naps, neither of which are particularly good for me).

So yeah, I feel happy and, somehow, better than I have in a long time (not that I have been at all unhappy lately, just that I feel *really* good now). Maybe it’s the exercising.

Totally unrelated to anything, you should check out Josh Freese’s new CD. His packages are hilarious. I downloaded his single today (free, legitly from his website :P) and I like it, so I’ll probably spring for his CD at some point… but probably not one of the higher packages :P

Headphones!

I ordered these headphones today.
Yay headphones. Let’s hope they’re worth the price.

Went to see Watchmen with the Sites team today. I don’t think I really liked it… the ending was really good (and unexpected) and they developed the characters well, but the beginning of the movie stretched on too long for my tastes. Also, the movie had a lot of graphic violence that, in my opinion, was unnecessary. I dunno. I don’t recommend seeing it in theaters because movies there are way too overpriced, but you should see it on video if you don’t mind a lot of blood and gore (like cleavers to the head, exploding people, chopping off of arms, etc).

Justin and Harry were over for games tonight, which was fun. I was close to winning the game of Settlers, but Harry took away longest road the turn before I could win. Oh well.

Yay life.

Quiznos’ Deceptive Marketing

So a couple weeks ago I received a ton of Quiznos coupons in the mail (not as part of some larger coupon packet, so they must have sent it themselves), about half of which were coupons for free subs (either when you buy one sub, or when you buy one sub and a drink). Thinking this was a good deal, I pulled some coworkers into going with me. When I got there, it turned out that they weren’t actually honoring the coupons, and their “since” date on the notices posted were before I had even received the coupons so it would seem that they had never intended on honoring the coupons. Instead, they gave some small discount with the coupon ($3 off two subs, I believe it was). I figured since we were there anyway, we might as well do it. (Felt a bit cheated the whole time though, like they had pulled a bait-and-switch on me.)

Today, I came across the million subs website, which gives you a coupon good for a free sub if you sign up with some personal info (name, age, favorite sub, state and zip). Again, I sent the link around and headed there at lunch with a couple coworkers intending to get a sub. Once again, there was a notice that they were not honoring the coupon and were instead giving a small discount. I checked another nearby Quiznos and this seems to be standard for the area.

I consider this extremely deceptive on their part. I understand that the area is a little more expensive (it *is* the financial district/SOMA in SF), but they did send out the promotional material the first time, and the website did not state any limitations on the use of the coupon, even though it had my zip code and could have easily notified me. To do this to pull in customers, and then refuse to honor the deals, is unacceptable.

So yeah, I’m a little pissed off about this. I used to love Quiznos, and would go to the one in Pittsburgh sometimes and get their tasty soup-in-a-breadbowls and ones here for Sammies (nom nom). But after this experience, I think I’m going to be dropping Quiznos from my list of lunch destinations in SF. Shame on you for your horrible marketing practices.

In other, unrelated, news, Alisa and Chris, you still haven’t reposted the meme. I have your photos mostly finished, but you won’t get them until you repost :P

In other other news, I ordered the lens I talked about in my last post. It should arrive at some point next week. Exciting! :D

Photo meme, take two

This was a lot of fun last time, and got me interested in doing a bunch of Photoshopping, so I feel like doing it again:

The first X people (where X >= 3) to respond to this will receive a photograph (likely played with in Photoshop in some manner), dedicated to them. It could be of anything, but it will be something that reminds me of you, that is symbolic or meaningful in some way. It will be a new photograph, taken specifically for this meme (rather than an old photograph that I just play around with).

The catch is, you have to post something similar to your journal, tailored of course to fit your particular area of ‘expertise’: poetry, prose, art, whatever floats your boat.

You do have to repost this in your journal before I’ll do this for you :)
Also, if you are Greg, Zeke, or Zach, you can request another, but you’ll be last in the queue after anyone else who wants one.
