This week of work was kinda terrible and awesome.
I broke the build twice… but also managed to learn a lot about the underlying system architecture.
At the same time, I feel like I got a lot of work done. Woot.

I dunno.
Mainly I just wanted a post on February 29. Win.

Pet peeve: People who pull the “stop request” thing on the bus after a stop has already clearly been requested (indicated by two large overhead signs, one that is lit and the other that is an LCD sign that says “STOP REQUESTED”).
Better: People who continually pull the “stop request” thing on the bus after a stop has clearly been requested.
Genius: People who yell to the bus driver to stop the bus because, “I couldn’t get it to ring.” despite all the evidence that the stop has been requested.
Amusing: Watching said person become visibly agitated as the bus drives past a stop they wouldn’t normally stop at and watching them glare at the bus driver and, again, yell that they want a stop but “couldn’t get it to ring.”
End: Watching said person storm off the bus at the next stop, with a sarcastic, “Thank you very much.” to the bus driver.

All the bus stops here have the buses that stop at them clearly indicated on the stop, and we were moving slowly enough that it was easy to read these… so it’s not like not knowing the stops is an excuse.

Seriously, some people are stupid. Also, people who cross streets in clear violation of crossing lights causing traffic to be held up also piss me off. If there are no cars coming, fine, cross on red… but if there is a huge line of cars waiting to turn, you wait for your damn pedestrian crossing light.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve had way too much booze this week, and really should cut back. Drastically.

Sunday I had a tasty mixed drink with halfprice. Monday I went out and bought a huge bottle of Bailey’s that I’ve been chipping away at on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and today. Thursday was a company meeting that featured an open bar; I had 4 large mixed drinks there (in under an hour, which was probably a little too fast). Yesterday I had also some beer at the weekly team meeting.

Resolution: Starting tomorrow, I won’t have any booze for a week… possibly more. This is probably a good idea.

Relatedly, I still haven’t really been drunk. I got a little tipsy on Thursday (Greg can vouch), but I think I got much better rather quickly (within an hour and a half of being done with drinking). I guess I handle alcohol well… that’s good at least.

Work and life are both going well. I guess generally, if I’m not writing about work, it’s going well. I tend to only write about things when I have complaints, I guess. Wheee.

Rain rain rain

Today was gross and drizzly… appropriate weather, I guess.

Work hasn’t been going nearly as well as I’d like. I’m starting to get results back now from my first real task (that took about twice as long as estimated), and it looks like I missed the goal… meaning that I didn’t really finish the task after all, despite taking over half a week to do it. Blah.
I also generally feel like I’m having much more trouble understanding the code that I really should be.

I want things to be simple again, like they were this weekend or last semester.

The weekend summarized in snapshots.
(Lots of photos!)

After all that was halfprice tastiness at Fuel (they have awesome mixed drinks there!). Today was flight home. My plane arrived 50 minutes early into Las Vegas, turning a 2 hour layover into a 3 hour layover… but besides that, the trip was uneventful. Final tally of of airline abuse to the ceramics and glass I packed to bring back here: two of eight glasses broken and one of six small ceramic plates broken. Everything else survived, amazingly (including the giant Costco bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap as well as all the dinner plates, all the bowls, and all the silverware and knives). Huzzah.

Best weekend in a long time. Thanks again to teh Ben and Jon for picking me up at the airport.

I might eventually sort through the photos again and post some of the more portrait-like ones in portraits and/or a reselection of photos from the weekend in photos2. Would anyone be potentially intested in this? I think I’m just feeling photo deprived (besides the beach trip with brewer and dkb, this is the first serious use my camera has gotten since leaving CMU).

Tomorrow is work. Blah.
